Chiefland Astronomers CAV (Formally Billy Dodd Memorial Observers Field)

News and Forthcoming Events

In the past we have held star parties.  From October 2017, we aim to have gatherings (Astrofests) in the fall and spring

Our philosophy is to keep members costs to a minimum, hence there is no fee for membership, for new moon weekends, nor for attending Astrofest gatherings.  As there are continuous running/maintenace costs (grass cutting, utilities, internet etc.) for the facility, we do however suggest that the field users make a modest donation to cover these costs, thus making the club viable.

Important Note: It is a standing regulation that any member cannot use the observing field until they have signed a copy of the “CAV Waiver Document” for each member and their guests or relatives.  Completed documents must be returned to the owner in the box provided within the clubhouse.  For your convience, a copy of the waiver is available for download by clicking this link:

2017 Fall Astrofest

Those who might like to come to the gathering early - Friday night or Saturday will be welcome.

We have 23 high power RV hookups, One cooker/Catering Hookup and numerous low power 110 VAC Hookups.

To obtain a ticket and reserve your place, write in by email and advise whether you require RV hook up or 110V low power hookup.

NB we can only accomodate approx 130 visitors so places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.

Please note to keep costs down, we have decided not to hire a Dumpster for rubbish disposal, I am imformed that Walmart in Chiefland, encourage shoppers to drop off rubbish whilst visiting the store. Several members are already doing this.

2017 Fall Astrofest:

I would like to welcome two new members on to our committie.

First My Neigbour, Mr Larry Arbeiter, who will be looking after Honored Guest Speakers.

Second Also a welcome return of Mr John O'Neill, who will be looking after the Guest Venders.

I am pleased to announce Dr Bill Williams has agreed to give us a talk once again.  I am also pleased to announce Tom Crowley will be giving us a further talk on aspects of Radio Astronomy. This is a welcome return as I found his talk on S.E.T.I really excellent at the 2016 event.

I have been asked if I am going to allow venders at the Astrofest and Spring picnic, the answear is a positive YES and the same for the forseable future.

Any further questions not covered here please email me directly.
